The Fiat 500 was given a huge endorsement this month, as J.D. Power singled out the hatchback during their annual Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study. The study is a benchmark for drivers and automakers on the performance and design of the most recent line of new vehicles. The Fiat 500 was given the top spot in the study’s “City Car” segment, thanks to its outstanding style and new high-tech interior amenities.
The 500 has already been praised by numerous outlets, including Edmunds, which called out the car’s “perky, fun-loving” style. It’s this style, as well as the 500's efficiency and reliability that has contributed to the hatchback's tremendous showing in this year's APEAL study. J.D. Power especially liked the car’s Bluetooth audio streaming, revised center console and its new automatic transmission on the Abarth model.
The fun and spunky hatchback is available in seven trim levels that speak to the car’s versatility. Standard features throughout the trim levels include a 6-speaker sound system with iPod compatibility, cruise control, 50/50-split rear-folding seats and 11 exterior colors. Other optional features on the hatchback include special black headlight housings, painted wheels, 16-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, a sport-tuned suspension and satellite radio.
Under the hood, drivers can choose between two engine options: a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged 1.4-liter four. Both engines are available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
