Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne told reporters at the Geneva Motor Show last month that he plans on incorporating hybrid technology into models across both the Alfa Romeo and Fiat lineups.

This is an exciting new step forward for Fiat and Alfa, showcasing that the hybrid and electric car trend isn’t going away any time soon. Marchionne explained that the emission targets for countries around the world have made moving to hybrid and electric powertrains increasingly necessary.

He has set a date for this new onslaught of electric cars to 2020, giving Fiat and Alfa plenty of time to come up with new ways to integrate the technology into their existing lineup and to create new hybrid and electric models.

“Do I think we need to move to a higher use of electrification in our cars? Yes, absolutely. Do I think we will have the technology in most of our cars by 2020? Yes,” said Marchionne.
