Where are Fiat cars made?

2018 FIAT e500

Fiat is one of the most recognizable automakers in the world and was originally founded in 1899. The mini vehicles that have a compact size are favored for their fuel efficiency and smooth ride. Although Fiat cars are increasing in popularity in the U.S., they are manufactured in Italy and were founded in Turin by a group of investors.

Fiat is known as the largest car brand in Italy and continues to be successful for the style and design of their models. 24 cars were produced in the first year in 1900 when the first plant opened in the country. The first model that was released was the Fiat 4 HP, which had four horsepower and did not have a roof with only eight other models produced the same year. In the 1910s, they began to shift their focus and create products that were used in World War I and II with a minimal amount of cars still manufactured.

Turin is one of the oldest facilities and first opened its doors in 1939. It currently makes the Alfa Romeo MiTo and the Maserati Levante. An additional plant is in Piedimonte San Germano, Italy where the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio are made. The plant has been operating since 1972 when the car brand began to find success. Additional plants are located in Grugliasco, Melfi, and Pomigliano d'Arco, Naples.

Fiat began to expand in 1969 when they bought half of Ferrari before they also bought Alfa Romeo from Italy's government in 1986, which allowed them to grow as a company at a steady rate. In 1993, Fiat also bought Maserati, further expanding its growth before buying Chrysler in 2014. Fiat Chrysler Automotive is currently the seventh largest car brand in the world.

Fiat is also manufactured in other parts of the world, including Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, India, China, Serbia, Japan, France, Mexico, and Thailand. The most recent facility opened in 2015 in Brazil where the Jeep Renegade, Jeep Compass, and Fiat Toro are currently made.

After its 60th anniversary, Fiat celebrated by making its 2 millionth Fiat on the factory assembly line, which was sold in Germany. The vehicle is currently sold in 100 countries around the world and is Europe's primary city car that can be spotted everywhere on the road. The Fiat 500 also has the highest consumer satisfaction rating in Germany and has the fastest market share growth.

Fiat's models have stood out in the auto industry for the quaint and compact size of the vehicles that attract plenty of attention. It has distinctive features that include bespoke spoilers, a honeycomb lower grille, its mini head and tail lights, and a sporty silhouette. Millennials in the U.S. have favored the car for its fuel-efficiency and ease of use. The two-door vehicle also has unique color shades that are available, which makes it appear retro.

Although the auto industry continues to evolve and change each year quickly, Fiat has managed to remain competitive and is one of the most successful car brands.
