FIAT to go all EV by 2030

FIAT to Sell Only EVs by 2030

FIAT recently announced that it plans to sell only electric vehicles by 2030, which promises to be one of the most dramatic changes in the Italian auto manufacturer’s 120+ year history. Starting in 2025, the company will begin to phase out combustion engines and gradually transition to an all-electric vehicle lineup over the following five years. Other auto manufacturers have also announced similar plans. However, if FIAT meets its ambitious 2030 goal, the company would be among one of the first major auto manufacturers in the world to go fully electric.

FIAT’s announcement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. After all, numerous countries in the world have already said that they plan to ban the sale of combustion engines in the coming years and decades. Although the US federal government currently has no such plans in place, several states have announced plans to ban gas and diesel engines. In this way, it seems that FIAT is getting in ahead of the curve to build a robust electric vehicle lineup before these bans are put into effect.

Although the transition to an electric-only lineup won’t begin for a few years, FIAT also announced in 2020 that 60 percent of its models would be available in hybrid gas-electric configurations by the end of 2021. Some European markets already have access to the FIAT 500 hybrid and Panda hybrid, and the company recently launched the 500e fully electric vehicle in Europe as well. Unfortunately, the company has said they currently have no plans to release these vehicles in the United States, but it will most likely only be a matter of time.

Currently, the FIAT USA lineup consists of the 500X and 124 Spider. Drivers looking for a safe, powerful and sporty crossover are sure to get a kick out of the FIAT 500X, which is available in four different configurations: Pop, Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus. On the other hand, drivers looking for more speed and thrills will love the Italian-inspired FIAT 124 Spider roadster.
