How Many EV Charging Stations are there in the United States?

There are now over 3.5 million electric vehicles on American roads, and demand for new EVs is increasing all the time. Naturally, this means that the demand for EV charging stations has also increased. As of October 2025, there are 81,215 charging stations with a total of 250,711 charging ports in the United States. That is a 17% increase in charging stations and a 28% increase in ports since the beginning of the year.

The EV charging stations aren't distributed evenly across all 50 states, however. Not surprisingly, the states that have the most registered EVs on the road have the most charging stations. For example, California is home to 19,627 charging stations, which make up 24% of all the stations in the country. Given that there are over 1.25 million EVs registered in California, it is not surprising that the state has the most charging stations. New York has the second-highest number of charging stations, at 5,214, while Florida comes in third with 4,194 stations. Many of these charging stations are located in large cities, with California cities Los Angeles, San Diego, and Irvine being home to the most stations.

EV charging stations and ports are most commonly found in hotels, car dealerships, office buildings, and parking lots. Level 2 chargers are typically found in hotels, as people often use them to charge their vehicles overnight. In contrast, DC fast chargers are commonly located in shopping centers and other areas where people are less likely to stay for extended periods.
