Specs at a Glance

With FIAT, you have a choice between a traditional hatchback and a sports utility vehicle. The 500L and 500X are family members but have distinctive differences setting them apart.

The 500L intercooler turbo I4 earns 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. It shares this engine with the 500X. It earns 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The 500L is offered with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 500L has a maneuverability advantage since its turning circle is inches shorter than the 500X turning circle.

Front wheel drive is standard, but the 500X crossover offers all-wheel drive on many models. You can still get a six-speed manual with the 500X as well. Using the same engine as the 500L, the crossover earns 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. It weighs less than the 500L, giving it more of a weight-to-horsepower advantage. If you want a faster engine, an I4 is standard on Trekking and higher models. It generates 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. Fiat makes it to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 500L is a five-seat wagon with the personality that has made these Fiats so inviting. Large eye-like headlights flank the stub-nosed face and slanted hood. It’s an iconic look capped off by exciting colors and contrasting roofs, if you choose. The cargo hold is rated at 22 cubic foot, and you can secure 68 cu.ft. by folding the seats.

Equally iconic but different, the 500X is a crossover, sitting higher. Its face has many of the same attributes as the 500L, but where the 500L hood slants down, the X hood is flatter pushing the nose out more. It still manages to project the look and feel of a European car. Passenger volume is 100.1 cubic feet, just a few cubes more than the 500L.

The 500X has caught up with the 500L tech list. Now both have a touchscreen Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They both have a rearview camera to take the guesswork out of parking. 500L models come in three trims. To enjoy a Beats audio system, navigation, and leather, you can step up to the affordable Trekking or Lounge models without adding too much to the price.

The 500X comes in four models. Its base edition has a fold-flat front passenger seat to give you more options for cargo. The Trekking edition has satellite radio, a proximity key, and other modern features. The Urbana Edition has a sporty upgraded upholstery. The 500X Lounge has heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It also has navigation and dual-zone climate controls. You can get crash avoidance technology including a blind spot monitor, a lane watch, a rear traffic watch, and a lane keeping assist.

You can take your pick of the 500L or 500X at FIAT of Scottsdale. Our knowledgeable staff can show you more about these two models.
